Dubai represents all that was wrong with the pre-crunch financial world; built on hubris, credit, speculation, the fallacy that property, bricks and mortar must represent value, and finally the massive instability caused by surplus-running countries (Abu Dhabi in this case) needing to invest somewhere, and turning to deficit running countries (in this case the emirate of Dubai).

You long Dubai? Depends on how long you expect to be alive I guess.

I believe that the Sheik's impossible dream will in fact turn out to be impossible.

Dubai to be the world's largest white elephant when we look back in 2020.

This is an awesome article, brother Sanjeev! Imagine - even if just for a moment - we could replace 'Dubai' with 'South Africa'! What a moment! Let me live it again!...and again!! :)

I'm going to jump right into it. There are other inspirational success-stories (eg Malyasia) on the planet that South Africa needs to learn from in accelerated manner! Remember, SA is also cast as a powerhouse...regional and continental at that! SA SHOULD be an inspirational example to the planet. Instead, we...let me rather not add to the rhetoric.

I am EXTREMELY interested by these develelopment success stories, especially those achieved against extreme odds.

More specifically my interest is to engage in crafting practical sustainable solutions to the opportunities Dubai offers - even if we do so in mid-flight!. Whilst we banter rhetoric in SA, there exists bountiful opportunities for our ambitious youth - who are not bound by the shackles of their parents' history.

I look forward to engaging with you in creating high value forward-motion initiatives. I write this in a public space specifically to also invite others of like mind and entrepreneurial spirit to similarly engage. There is more than enough room for all of us thrive based on our unique value-add.
