Doosfontein - exhausted after just one post? I assume you thought it was easy being positive in such times. Constant positivity does require a certain degree of fitness. Practice makes perfect.

Vapour and Nicholas - Don't you want to immigrate to outer space? I think we have enough whiners, moaners and negative problem people in the world already. I think it will be awesome to make space for the ones that drive change and innovation with a positive attitude and an open mind. They inspire and motivate those around them.

Denzil - you are quite right, having a purpose is important. Thanks for the valued comment.

Henre - I love the quote! It holds a lot of truth. You also emphasise an important point: it is important to be happy regardless of those around you.

Muser - Open minded and thought provoking as usual! Did Eskom leave so many of these cranky miserable creatures in the dark?

You have, once again, given us food for thought,Miss Feisty.

I agree with you that one should have 'a burning desire to live' although I believe that the intensity depends, to a great extent, on one's circumstances, be it health, age or frame of mind.

Most people honestly believe that they 'live' because they make no distinction between 'living' and 'existing'. What is important here is that everyone actually needs to make/take time to reflect on this and actually plan the direction they wish their lives to take. Obviously this path will need to be revised/adapted as the need arises because of unforeseen circumstances, change of focus or new opportunities. This reflection is hampered because we live in a noise an image polluted world where we are drowning in information yet are often short on knowledge. The frenzy of meeting deadlines, both personal and work related, together with the adrenalin rush that accompanies it, allows us to tick off the goals we are achieving and thus we often experience a rather warped sense of happiness - because we have not considered other ways of living.

Doosfontein, jou ou boks! I can just imagine you with left brow raised, beads of perspiration on your forehead, steaming up your gold-rimmed specs and droplets dripping from your nose - total exhaustion and unhappiness after wading through all this. Just shows you don't need an Escom power cut to be left in the dark!

Hey Bev, lovely read and you touched on some very important points. I love this quote (business & Life): "The elite performers in life spend their time centered on creating and building value rather than on making money. They seek out ways to enrich others, and they live to improve the lot of those who have the privilege of doing business with them. They take themselves out of the equation and exist, in many ways, for others. The irony is that they’re the ones who become the most successful and wealthy."

I DON'T believe you have to have a burning desire to want to live, I believe people in their normal, happy state have that already. Our minds and emotions have been polluted by influences we too often care to absorb.

I've found that being happy despite everyone else is so much easier than being happy because of everyone else.

People should try that.

In order to LIVE one must be in search of one thing and one thing only, your Destiny. The reasons why some people exist and others LIVE is that the one's existing have not made an attempt to discover their Destiny. Its a very difficult journey and they choose to take the easy route and continue on their daily drudge called their life. I have have personally made the conscious decision to discover my destiny and my life has been forever changed from merely existing to LIVING life to the fullest. As Paulo Coelho author of the Alchemist says, One's only obligation in life is to fulfill one's Destiny.
