As a near-60-year-old woman who has absolutely no plans to ever grace a built-for-2010 stadium, I cannot but feel desperately sorry for those who would give the World Cup their undying support if only they could manage to. Luckily, many will manage to find a TV. It may be counted a poor second, but it will give them front-row seats! The prices? The perfect example of the utter greed that permeates our country (and possibly, our world). I gather sales are not going as well as hoped and have always believed that a trip to SA will not be quite as easy for many as a flip to Europe, especially during this economic period. I'll wait and see...doubtless the taxis and those buses left on the road, after the SA Roadlink debacle, will do a roaring trade.

There's no question about it, it's FIFA's 2010 and FIFA's South Africa for the duration of the World Cup. If you really want to platz in horror, take a look at the marketing restrictions and regulations here: http://www.themediaonline.co.za/themedia/view/themedia/en/page262?oid=43633&sn=Detail

Great article and even before I got to the "supply & demand" part this was my thought. I believe that FIFA is of course the largest benefactor and that local businesses as the one's you've mentioned are the only one's to gain from this world cup experience. Well done on the BA Hons In political science. Would enjoy reading your political science articles in future. Nothing wrong with the Afrikaner Nationalists !

I wanted to apply for some tix. then I realised I havent quite made the mensa grade when looking at FNB's "application" folder.

I know scalping is a problm, but sheesh.

(Then again - who cares about scalpers? FIFA made their money if they sell out stadiums, so what if its re-sold? Welcome to an economic principle called "profit")
