Before commenting on Constitutional Court judgements the Health Minister might want to try and read them before doing so. By saying that were it not for the TAC’s 2001 court case, pregnant mothers would already have had access to dual-therapy treatment, the Minister makes it apparent that she disrespectfully hasn’t bothered to read our highest court’s judgement handed down to her. In its order (Minister, the order is relatively short and is to be found at the end of the judgement) the Court states that: “The orders made … do not preclude government from adapting its policy in a manner consistent with the Constitution if equally appropriate or better methods become available to it”. In any event I would imagine that the TAC is overjoyed by the fact that the Minister has finally, rightly attributed all the lives saved so far through PMTCT solely to them.

Kia ora Brother, it would seem that not many are prepared to see beneath the skin. So many health professionals have left south africa because they have felt their own mortality in the face of the disaster in your country.

Perhaps it needs to be considered that what is needed is less governmental policies dictating how a person may live or die.

Let there be grace and beauty and a welcome mat for us that are being judged on our stupidity. Get someone to help clean up the shit - and death. Let the process be faster.

I hate to tell you but this part of our humanity died a long long time ago. They are like the light shining from the sky of long dead suns, stars, and galaxies.

Those whom have AIDS are the most wisest of us all. We need only remember and this will prevent it happening again. Death is not an end - it is renewal.

Bless your love for your people,
Rachel

Jonathan, why even bother auditing the ramblings of an unreformed alcoholic? Sadly, it will take her another decade to kill her (indecently acquired) fresh liver.

Strength to you and the TAC.

Critical readers interested in informing themselves about the merits of giving AZT to pregnant women and their newborn babies, having regard to both safety and efficacy considerations, and who wish to understand the reasons for President Mbeki and Dr Tshabalala-Msimang's reservations about the drug, can find some useful materials in the 'Quick links' column at www.tig.org.za.

These include:

Why do President Mbeki and Dr Tshabalala-Msimang warn against the use of ARV drugs like AZT?
