Simon and Garfunkel are alive!

Last night I saw Simon and Garfunkel live. Having recently seen them on TV, I wondered if the money paid would be worth it. Thinning grey hair, old faces … old men.

But I’m pleased I attended. Their faces shone, their voices harmonised and the back-up band (including two South Africans) entertained us every minute of the show. (I think there was a little dying and perming behind the scenes). No interval and it was one exhilarating song after another.

Middle-age fans stood and danced. Grey-headed women clapped to the beat. The drummers went mad in the middle of the mix of memories. The group never skipped a beat as they danced and performed. Clearly, they’re performers in a league of their own.

So what’s my point? A thought on my way home. What my 84-year-old mom said before we left South Africa. “Live enthusiastically. Do something you enjoy.”

Many “so you want to be a star” type TV shows reveal unrealistic expectations. But there’s something about finding the gems out there and showcasing talent and encouraging those who have talent to persevere and give their gift to the world. It seems that enthusiasm at any age is vital to success. “Do what you love and live while you’re alive” … Simon and Garfunkel have proved that possible!

Simon & Garfunkel live on stage together? Was Paul restrained and Art wearing a bullet-proof vest?

Never thought I’d see the day these two arch-enemies get to be reunited. Hope someone has the common sense to bring them here, I’ll pay good money to see them.

  2. Hi Gerry

The two 67 year-olds have known each other since they were 11. And according to reports, they’re going to the end of the road as friends!

Not sure about a South African tour, though.

  3. Correction… Simon and Garfunkel are alive and not “dying” and I suspect that they’re “dyeing” their hair!
