I think he’s trying to tell you that you don’t have to worry about any threat of terror from SA’s Muslim community.

What about muslims being against terror in general?

Remember after our liberation in 1994 and more so after 9/11, the influx of Pakastani nationals and the massive movement of petro dollars into SA has created fertile ground for Al-Qaeda to nest in. The recent visa restrictions to the UK was the direct result of the corruption in our Home Affairs department. Now we’re in the unfortunate position of trying to close the barn door after the horse is gone!

Fortunately, our Muslim community understands the benefit of not living in an Islamic state and after having experienced apartheid, understand the need for diversity. The two things we are banking on are:
1. Al-Qaeda is smart enough not to sabotage it own existance in SA.
2. The “elements in society bent on creating a negative image of Muslims” don’t succeed. Perhaps if you give us more ideas on who these groups are, we can all try to be more vigilant.

I would tend to agree that Muslims in SA, like Muslims in India, seem to coexist relatively peacefully in a diverse society. Lets hope that the cancer of fundamentalism does not metastasize in SA’s Muslim community. The sooner Al-Qaeda is purged from SA the better for all, especially SA Muslims.
