South African artist marginalised again and again!

South African artist told that he will be excluded from the Johannesburg Art Fair yet he continues to be accepted Internationally.
His work was even included in the Toronto Art Fair.

The struggle against the system was covered in the Weekend Argus and the Sunday Independent.

' If I speak out I will be alienated by the art establishment '

I like to warn the real art collecter not to go to the show. They only have contempory and modern art that has no real secondary market at auction or galery owners fighting to buy it from you. In fact 80% of the art being exibited I have rarely heared about the artist and know that auction house dont accept their work because there is no buyers. I also have seen similar works as exibited when they do show up at auction, sells for 15% of their galery prices. The few "old masters" they have on the show is grossly overpriced, I'v seen a Sekota for 3x the price it sell for at auction. Also some top old master pieces gets put on the show just to improve its exposure with no intention of selling it. So to the comitted collecter, dont waste your time. You'll be dissapointed.

We arrived at the Art Fair on Friday at about 15:30 and paid the full R100 per person just to find out that all the bags are finished. We got our tickets and the floor plan of the exhibition and went in. But the disappointment of not receiving the beautiful bag grew and grew. I think we should have received a discount because the Art Fair could not give us a bag. It is not our fault that they did not plan to have enough bags for the day!
